Ezekiel Predicts Israel's Return

Ezekiel 4:4,5,6

Bible scholars didn't understand it. The very competent Dr Constable in his Bible Study notes on Ezekiel says it's difficult to understand. Matthew Henry in his commentary makes his comments here. John Wesly's exposition offers little information. However, with all of the wisdom of a Monday night quarterback another option suggests itself. That is the option that these verses really prophesy the return of Israel in 1948.

Here is how the theory goes.

  1. 390 days on his left side and 40 days on his right side equals 430 days. As scripture tells us, each day represents a year.
  2. Subtract 70 years (Daniel 9:1,2, prophesized in Jeremiah 29:10) for the time served in Babylon, and that leaves 360. The 70 years ended when the Jews rebuilt the temple in 537 BC
  3. The Israelites still did not obey God, so following Leviticus 26:18,21,23,24,27,28 we multiply 360 by 7 to get 2520.
  4. Multiply 2520 by 360 (Number of days in prophetic year) to get 907,200.
  5. Israel became a nation again on May 14, 1948, that is when the 907,200 days end
  6. Using this Julian date converter we get May 14, 1948 equals Universal Julian date of 2432686
  7. Subtracting the prophesized number of days (907,200) from the May 14, 1948 Universal Julian Date (2432686) we get 1525486.
  8. Putting 1525486.46999 back in the Julian date converter we get July 21, 537 BC.
  9. While the day is unknown, the year is clear here.

In Summary

  1. Babylonian armies attacked Judah in 606 BC starting the clock Year 0
  2. With King Cyrus approval, Jews leave to rebuild temple in 537 BC(70 years later) - Start new clock
  3. May 14,1948 - Israel returns as a nation - 907,200 days later
