The Old Pastor and the Storm
1 Timothy 1:19
The howling wind picked up. The old pastor, coffee cup in hand, slowly inched towards the frosted parsonage window. The snow storm was so bad he could barely make out the coast. As time went on the storm got more severe. "No service tonight" he muttered to himself.
Just as he was deciding not to even bother walking the 50 yards to the church he felt God's call clearer then ever, "Preach tonight". This man of God was not going to disobey.
Slowly he put on his heaviest parka and his well worn gloves. Then he started the trek to the rickety old church building. He felt a strange chill as he flipped the switch flooding the tiny church with light. It was time to start service, but he was alone.
"This is so stupid", he muttered to himself as his hand went to switch the light off. His fingers just hovered over the switch as the feeling once again overpowered him "Preach tonight". "But nobody is here", he argued with himself. The strong feeling to preach won out and he proceeded to the pulpit. The old man started by singing two songs a cappella, and then he preached to the cold empty room. When it was over he finally was able to switch the light off with good conscience. He walked back through the bitter cold feeling like an idiot.
The weather cleared and by Wednesday night the attendance was full. The energized pastor gave one of his best sermons in his long career. When his service was over a wrinkled, toothless old man in a battered sailor cap approached the pastor. "Three nights ago I was lost in the storm", he said "but with the light of this church I found my way".
This web site is a picture of that old pastor. Somewhere there is an old sailor looking for the light. Maybe God will direct him here, maybe he will not. Nevertheless, in obedience to God, this site is here, waiting.
